After former Vice President Joe Biden announced that he was running for president, he said, “We are living through a battle for the soul of this nation.” During a subsequent interview with Good Morning America, in an attempt to mimic Trump, Biden said that his campaign slogan is, “Make America Moral Again.” He then said that his goal is to “make America return to the essence of who we are, the dignity of the country, the dignity of people, and treating our people with dignity.”
A person who is moral knows the difference between right and wrong and does his or her best to behave in a virtuous, honorable, honest, respectable, and law-abiding manner. I would like to hear Joe Biden’s explanation of how he’s going to make America moral again. What are the specific things he’s going to do to accomplish his goal?
Does his plan to make America moral again include the introduction of a constitutional amendment that provides for the protection of the life of every unborn American child?
How is he going to address the recent passage of new laws in various states that have declared that an unborn child can be executed, chopped up, and disposed of up until the moment of birth.
Let’s take a look at how moral Joe Biden is when it comes to abortion. During a vice presidential debate that occurred on October 11, 2012, Biden and his opponent, Paul Ryan, were asked what role religion had played in their own personal views on abortion. Ryan’s response was, “I don’t see how a person can separate their public life from their private life or from their faith.”
Here’s how Biden responded to the question:
My religion defines who I am, and I’ve been a practicing Catholic my whole life. And it has particularly informed my social doctrine. Catholic social doctrine talks about taking care of those who can’t take care of themselves, people who need help. With regard to abortion, I accept my church’s position that life begins at conception. That’s the church’s judgment. I accept it in my personal life. But I refuse to impose it on equally devout Christians and Muslims and Jews and — I just refuse to impose that on others, unlike my friend here, the congressman. I do not believe that we have a right to tell other people that women can’t control their body. It’s a decision between them and their doctor, in my view. And the Supreme Court — I’m not going to interfere with that.
While Biden is not willing to allow his so-called personal belief that life begins at conception to interfere with a woman’s right to kill her unborn child, he is willing to impose upon others his new-found belief that American tax dollars should be used to pay for abortions. I say “new-found belief” because until earlier this month (June 6, 2019), Biden — who is 70 years old — made a surprise announcement during a speech in Atlanta.
During his speech, Biden said that he no longer supports the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding of abortions. Prior to his speech, he had consistently supported the Hyde Amendment.
So, the “practicing Catholic” who believes that he is a morally upright man is willing to sell his own soul for votes, and he is willing to use the power of the U.S. presidency to pay for the murder of unborn American children with our tax dollars.
Is this the type of man who is capable of leading and winning a battle for the soul of our nation? How can he win such a battle when he’s willing to support the silencing of more than a million American souls each year through abortion — souls that will never have a chance to see the light of day and live their own life of dignity?
So what would it take to make America moral again?
I’ve written before about Alexis de Tocqueville, a Catholic Frenchman who died in 1859 at the age of 53. Tocqueville was active in French politics and traveled extensively. He came to the United States in May 1831 and spent nine months traveling throughout the country. While he was in America, he took extensive notes concerning religious, political, and economic activity in our country.
After he returned to France, Tocqueville published Democracy in America, a book in which he praised the freedom and economic opportunities in America. Here’s one of the most famous quotes from Tocqueville’s book:
I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers — and it was not there . . . in her fertile fields and boundless forests and it was not there . . . in her rich mines and her vast world commerce — and it was not there . . . in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution — and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.
It was Tocqueville’s belief that America was good because it was established and built on a foundation of Judeo-Christian values that had historical roots in both Judaism and Christianity.
Judaism is a religion that was developed among the ancient Hebrews and was characterized by a belief in one transcendent God who revealed Himself to Abraham, Moses, and the Hebrew prophets. It is a religion that is still practiced by the Jewish people in accordance with scriptures and rabbinic traditions.
Those of us who are Christians know that Christianity is a religion that was derived from the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is a religion based on tradition and the bible (sacred scripture) and is professed and taught by Eastern, Roman Catholic, and Protestant organizations.
The Judeo-Christian values include the virtues of honesty, integrity, temperance, humility, courage, industriousness, sincerity, self-denial, purity, and chastity. Unfortunately, those values are no longer taught in our public schools or endorsed by our media. In our modern culture, many of our leaders and citizens have replaced those proven values with dishonesty, greed, jealousy, envy, anger, revenge, laziness, impulsiveness, over-indulgence, narcissism, impurity, promiscuity, depravity, and licentiousness.
We know from history that our Founding Fathers believed in and practiced Judeo-Christian values. Those values influenced their declaration that we were all created equal in the eyes of God, and provided the pillars upon which our legal and financial systems were built.
We have reached the point where we now have an ever-increasing number of media companies and personalities, as well as corrupt and lawless politicians, legislators, judges, and regulators whose sole purpose is to undermine our traditional religious values. Why? So they can exercise more power and control over us and become wealthy by promoting the sale of products that appeal to our base instincts, or by passing laws that allow them to confiscate (through taxation) our money and property.
If Joe Biden wants to win the battle for the soul of our country and make America moral again, he needs to put policies and laws in place that will help us to return to the value system upon which our country was established and built. Our nation will not survive unless the majority of its citizens are committed to and practicing the Judeo-Christian values of our Founding Fathers.
We need to continue to pray that God will bless and guide America so that she will once again become a moral country.
