Last month, I scheduled a time to donate blood at the Red Cross. In order to save time, prior to showing up for my appointment, I logged onto the Red Cross website and answered all the preliminary questions that I’m required to answer before I can donate blood. The questions were designed to allow the Red Cross to determine any blood safety risks that may be present.

One of the questions asked if I was currently taking an antibiotic. Another question asked if I had taken aspirin within the past 48 hours. Other questions asked whether I had a blood transfusion in the past 12 months, or whether I had ever had an ear or body piercing, a blood transfusion, or an organ or tissue transplant.

Even though I answered all the questions that were on the website, when I arrived at the Red Cross for my appointment, an assistant sat down with me and asked several additional questions. I’ve been donating blood for the past few years, so I’ve become familiar with the questions that are asked before I donate blood.

During my recent visit, there was a new question that caught me by surprise: “What gender are you?”

Within a split-second, several possible answers/questions flashed through my mind. The first answer/question that popped into my mind was, What gender do you think I am? The next answer/question was, You can see with your own eyes that there’s a 60-year-old man sitting next to you, and you don’t know what gender he is? Several other things flashed through my mind before I quickly decided that I was going to be courteous to the young woman who was only doing her job. The answer that finally came out of my mouth was, Male.

If I had known the question was going to be asked, I could have done some quick research before my appointment and chosen one of 78 genders that are currently available to choose from. I could have chosen Adamasgender (a gender which refuses to be categorized), or Brevigender (a subset of gender fluid in which you feel your gender is never stable for long periods of time, but is constantly changing), or Ceterofluid (a gender where your feelings fluctuate between masculine, feminine, and/or neutral),

One modern-day definition of “gender” is “a similar category of human beings that is outside the male/female binary classification and is based on the individual’s personal awareness or identity.”

I realize that there are Generation Xers (born between 1965 and 1980) and Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) who think that a guy like me is nothing more than an intolerant, hateful, religious bigot. Why would they think that? Because I still believe in traditional marriage. I also still believe that when you look at a naked, newborn baby, you can tell whether it’s a boy or a girl.

Of course, it shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone that it’s easy to identify the gender that God intended for a person by looking at the body of the person immediately after birth. But apparently that’s only true if you happen to believe that there is an Infinitely Perfect Supreme Being who created all things and keeps them in existence.

One explanation for the drastic shift in what we believe about ourselves and the people around us can be found in recent studies that have shown that younger Americans are much less religious than their older counterparts. Only 52% of millennials claim that they are “absolutely certain of their belief in God,” and only 28% of millennials attend weekly religious services. Of the millennials who consider themselves religious, more than half of them believe that homosexuality should be accepted by society, and more than 40% support same-sex marriage.

In my opinion, the primary reason there has been such a significant shift in morality and values in our country is because over the past 50 years, American children have not been taught the traditional Judeo-Christian values that our country was founded upon. Instead, while we weren’t looking, a new set of beliefs and values was introduced and incorporated into our public-school system.

We were all created to believe in absolutes — values and principles that are regarded as universal. Over the years, the values and principles that were traditionally taught to young, impressionable minds changed from God-based values and principles to self-based values and principles.

The values and principles that were taught in the public school system to Generation Xers and Millennials supported the belief that we are free to engage in any type of sexual behavior that we desire as long as it is with a consenting adult (soon to be with a consenting adult or robot). And it was drilled into their heads that it is their duty to show “love” toward others by approving, encouraging, and supporting the same type of behavior among them. They were taught that if they failed to approve of and support such behavior, they would be nothing more than nasty, hateful, judgmental bigots who would be shunned and ostracized.

In more recent times, the “new” values of gender identity have been introduced and incorporated into the public school system. Our children and grandchildren are now being taught that it is their “right” to choose their own identity and that they also have the right to engage in whatever form of reprehensible behavior that is currently being accepted as normal by the media and the public school system.

In my opinion, there’s only one way to begin the process of returning to a time when American children are taught the same Judeo-Christian values that have always been the foundation of stable, prosperous, secure, family-oriented societies. The only way to do this is to break up the public school system by putting a policy in place that offers federal school vouchers for every child who is in grade school or high school. The way this would work is if it costs $8,000 a year for a child to attend school for one year, the family of that child would be given a voucher that is worth $8,000 to be used to enroll the child in any school that the family chooses.

Parents who want their children to learn subjects such as reading, writing, arithmetic, science, and religion, so the child will be properly prepared for adulthood, can choose a private Christian or Catholic school. For those parents who want their children to absorb and adopt the deviant, sinful practices that are currently popular in the media and the public schools can choose schools that will pass those values on to their children.

Within only a handful of years of the introduction of a voucher program, the entire public school system would implode. It would then be springtime in America. It could take several generations to firmly reestablish the Judeo-Christian values that built our country, but it would be worth it.

In my opinion, regardless of whether you like him or not, the only person who is bold and “crazy” enough to take on the media, the people who run the institutions of higher education, and the teachers’ unions, is President Trump. It is my hope and prayer that his short-term agenda includes the implementation of a school voucher program.
