A Real Live Sister Act

Last Tuesday evening (October 16) while I was participating in a holy hour in a perpetual adoration chapel in Cleveland, Ohio, I learned that my second-biggest Adoration Letter fan was scheduled to have her leg amputated.  Georgette and I had arrived in Ohio on Monday evening for two days of meetings with a group of business owners who get together three times a year to share ideas and strategies for growing their businesses.

An Eternal Contract

In the mid-1980s, I taught a Business Law class at Illinois Central College (ICC).  One of the areas of law that was covered in the class was contract law.  I taught my students that there are four conditions that are necessary in order for a contract (or agreement) to be legally valid and binding.  The four conditions are:

Living a Life of Quality and Personal Leadership

Last month, there was an event that caused me to stop what I was doing and think back to 1989.  That was the year I purchased The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, a book written by Stephen Covey.  The event that caused me to stop and think about Covey’s book was a report on the news that he had passed away.  Covey died on July 16, 2012, at the age of 79.  At the time of his death, he was a professor at the John Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University.

Date Night

During the years I was growing up, every Wednesday evening my parents went out together for a “date night.” A date night consisted of a trip to one of the local restaurants (usually Hunt’s or Lum’s) for a sandwich and then to the Eagle food store to buy groceries for our family.

What Is There To Like About Golf?

Every summer several of my brothers and cousins go to Iowa to play golf for 3½ days.  On each of the first three days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) they play at least 36 holes of golf.  The final day (Sunday) they play 18 holes.  Then they go home.

Mean, Mighty & Deadly

With the recent killing of Osama Bin Laden, we heard a lot about SEAL Team 6, the group of young American military men who swooped down on Bin Laden’s fortress, did their dirty work, and then disappeared into the night.
