Fearless

Fear Into ActionDuring the summer of 1989, most evenings I came home from work, ate supper with my family, and then sat in a lawn chair in the front yard of our home to read the newspaper.  We lived in a quiet, residential neighborhood in Peoria where there wasn’t much traffic.

The Appetite of Fear

Fear Stops LifeLast week I told you about the first auto accident injury case that I tried in front of a jury.  I won the case despite being up against a trial attorney who had more than 30 years of experience, compared to my two years of experience.  I told you about how I was like a fearless teenager who takes risks he shouldn’t take and jumps into situations he shouldn’t be involved in.  Because of my youthfulness and lack of experience, I didn’t have any fear of going up against the older more experienced attorney.

The Language of the Rosary

Blessed Virgin MaryI periodically encounter a devout Catholic who is struggling with emotional issues that are causing him or her to experience significant suffering.  After a short discussion about what’s troubling the person, I always ask the exact same question: Do you pray your rosary every day?  The answer is always ‘no.’  Always.

PrayerReallyChangeThingsI recently read an article on the Internet that discussed a recent study that was performed by McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts.  The study found that belief in God can help treat depression.

A Near Death By Suffocation

During my first two years in high school, I was on the wrestling team.  My win/lose record freshman year was 50/50.  I was what was commonly referred to in the wrestling world as a “fish” – someone who usually ended up on his back flopping around until his opponent finally completed the task of “pinning” him.

The Truth About Panic

When the recent earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, people in various parts of the world panicked.  A week after the earthquake, a Los Angeles Times article reported that there were “long lines and mob scenes at stores across China after rumors spread of a radioactive cloud from Japan’s quake-damaged nuclear plant.”  Can you guess what the mobs of people were trying to buy?  Iodized salt.  They were under the false impression that they would be protected from radiation if they consumed extra iodized salt.
