Overcoming the Fear of Rejection

Rejection Just Ahead Green Road Sign with Dramatic Storm Clouds and Sky.Last week, I published an Adoration Meditation article — “Harnessing the Power of Fear” — that focused on two types of fear, servile fear and filial fear.  You can find the article in the adoration chapel or online at Adoration.com.  If you haven’t read it, I would recommend that you do so.  There’s a good chance you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what is says about a prayer that you memorized when you were in second grade.

Aggressive Behavior, Anger, and Trust

AngerOne evening during the summer of 2005, I called one of my clients and asked him if he would come over to my house to fix a problem with my plumbing.  His name was Jim, and at that time he was in his mid-50s.  We had done business with each other since the early 1990s.  I was originally introduced to Jim by another client who owned several rental properties and had hired Jim to work on his properties.

A Simple Formula for Happiness

HappinessLast week, while I was meeting with a client, she started talking about a new crisis in her life that was causing her distress.  (For the purpose of this article, I’m going to call my client “Julie.”)  At any other time in her life, Julie would have easily been able to handle the type of crisis she was going through, but this time she was in severe distress.

A Client Who Thought He Was Invincible

InvincibleLast month while I was at a party, I ran into a man that I had assisted with some legal problems in the mid-1980s.   (For the purpose of this article, I’m going to call him “Mark.”)  When I saw Mark at the party he didn’t look very well to me.  In addition to being extremely thin, his skin looked dull and pasty.

A Simple Reminder

Prayer Before MealsLast week, my daughter, Laura, shared a recent experience in a family email.  After I read the email, I asked Laura if I could publish what she said in my Adoration Letter.  She said yes.  Laura is 26 years old and was recently involved in a play at a local community theater.  I changed the name of her friend to protect her friend’s privacy.  Here’s the email:

Born To Win

I have a large library of self-improvement and personal development books, cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs, and digital audio and video computer files that I constantly refer to for inspiration, motivation, and guidance.  Among those items are cassette tapes and CDs that were produced by Zig Ziglar, one of the top motivational speakers in America.

Email – The Lowest Form of Communication

Although I like the Internet and most of its features and benefits, when it comes to sending and receiving communications of any substance, I hate email.  I long for the good old days (20 years ago) when people wrote real letters, folded them up, placed them in envelopes addressed to the intended recipients, and mailed them.
