About ten years ago, my wife and I attended a marketing conference featuring Mike Vance as one of the speakers.   When Vance was a young man, he was a personal friend and associate of Walt Disney.  Vance, who is now in his eighties, was the founder of the Creative Thinking Association of America.

A Wicked Experience

As you may know, the Broadway show, Wicked, played in Peoria from October 12th through October 30th.  When tickets went on sale a few months ago, I bought tickets for me, Georgette, and our three youngest daughters, Mary, Christine and Teresa.  Tickets ranged in price from $42 to $127.  I got by “cheap” by purchasing the $42 (second balcony) tickets for a total cost of $210..

Predicting The Future

In the movie Back To The Future Part II, the main character, Marty McFly, travels 30 years into the future with scientist, Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown.  The movie starts with Doc returning from the year 2015 to 1985 and notifying Marty (who at that time is 17 years old and in high school) that they have to go “back to the future” to help Marty’s (future) son.

Let’s Make A Deal

When I was boy, there was a game show on television called “Let’s Make A Deal.”  On the show, a contestant was shown three curtains to choose from.  Behind one of the curtains, there was usually a gag prize such as a live mule or a bucket of dirt.  Behind the other two curtains were expenses prizes.  The object of the game was to choose one of the curtains that had prizes behind it.  After the contestant chose a curtain, the curtain was opened to reveal what the contestant won.

Are you a Hero or a Villain?

When I was 12 years old, I experienced two events that changed the course of my life: (1) I got my own paper route; and (2) my mom drove me to the bank and opened up a checking account in my name.  The reason she opened the account was because she didn’t want the job of writing a check every week to the local newspaper (Peoria Journal Star).  When we got home, she taught me how to write checks, and when the first bank statement arrived in the mail, she taught me how to reconcile the account.

My son Harry recently turned 30 years old.  He’s the oldest of my seven children.  When Harry was a young boy, one of his favorite shows was Sesame Street.  You remember Sesame Street don’t you?  It was a children’s show that had a cast of characters with names like Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie.
