A Different Perspective on the Robin Williams Suicide

Robin WilliamsAfter the recent suicide of the famous American actor and comedian Robin Williams, various reasons were given to explain why he killed himself. Some of the reasons included the fact that he had recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, suffered from severe depression, and was having money problems. For whatever reason, at the age of 63, Williams ended his life after determining that he was better off dead than alive.

Is There a Cure for Depression?

Depression CureThe psychiatry journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA Psychiatry) recently published the results of a study that revealed that people who are at high risk of depression and believe that religion or spirituality is important are less likely to suffer from depression.  The results of the study showed that the cerebral cortex of each of the brains of the people who were less likely to suffer from depression was thicker.  The cerebral cortex is the outermost layer of the brain.

David-GoliathLast month, a “David vs. Goliath” case was argued before the Supreme Court of the United States.  The “David” in the case is Vernon Hugh Bowman, a 75-year-old farmer from Indiana.  The “Goliath” is the mighty Monsanto Company.

The newest release of the Marvel Studios movie, The Amazing Spider-Man, tells the back-story of Peter Parker (Spider-Man).  The movie starts out when Peter is a young boy.  For an unexplained reason, someone is out to get Peter’s parents.  In order to ensure his safety, Peter’s parents drop him off to stay with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

A Resolution To Commit Suicide?

During the 1980s and 1990s, I had the great fortune of working with Herman Heilman, a commercial and industrial real estate appraiser.  I was introduced to Herman by my Uncle Tony Couri.  Herman and Uncle Tony were good friends who went back a long way – Herman was born in 1904, and Uncle Tony was born in 1912.
